GRAFTING PINUS SIBIRICA DU TOUR IN THE WESTERN PIEDMONT OF THE MIDDLE URALS Fedorov Aleksandr Vladimirovich, Dr. of Agric. Sci., Ass. Prof., Udmurt Federal Research Center, Ural Branch of the RAS, Izhevsk, Russia. Zorin Denis Aleksandrovich, Cand. of Agric. Sci., Udmurt Federal Research Center, Ural Branch of the RAS, Izhevsk, Russia. Keywords: grafting, scion, rootstock, Pinus sibirica Du Tour., Pinus sylvestris L. Abstract. Vegetative reproduction is the only means of mass reproduction for sterile forms with insufficient or absent seed production, as well as in the matter of biodiversity conservation in the introduction experiment and selection process. Given the low rooting of cuttings of Pinus spp., grafting becomes essential. However, one of the main problems in the use of grafting on non-traditional and poorly studied scion-rootstock combinations is the phenomenon of incompatibility and low survival rate. To solve the problems of compatibility of components, better survival rate, accretion and further growth and development of the grafted plants, it is necessary to study scion-rootstock combinations, grafting periods, methods and techniques of grafting in specific meteorological conditions. The purpose of the work is to study the optimal timing of grafting Pinus sibirica Du Tour. on Pinus sylvestris L. for the introduction and conservation of biodiversity in the Udmurt Republic. The choice of the earliest possible time for grafting was made taking into account the descent of the snow cover. It was noted that the grafted cuttings of Pinus sibirica Du Tour took root better in the first period of grafting comparing with the second term – in one week afterthe first grafting. Our observations do not confirm the statement ofseveral authorsthat graftings of conifers grow together better at temperatures of 18–20 °C. This is probably due to the fact that our studies were conducted in open ground conditions, with lower air humidity and a sufficiently high amplitude of the daily variation of temperatures than that observed in the protected ground conditions. A close correlation was found between survival and the sum of temperatures above 0 and 5 °С, the correlation coefficients were –0.92 and –0.94, respectively (for the 3-year period – –0.89 and –0.93). Thus, the higherthe amount of active temperatures was observed at the time of grafting in the field, the lower was the graft survival rate. REFERENCES 1. Plotnikova L.
